I’m choosing to stay smokefree

Devan

“I’ve tried to stop smoking before, but this time feels different. Three months in, I’m proud to say I’m still smokefree!

We’ve found ways to keep me motivated, even linking it to my favourite TV shows. When I start to feel unsure, especially about going out and having a drink, I remind myself it’s like the final of The Traitors. I can choose to carry on as I am, win the game, and keep saving my £45 a week for new clothes or an outfit for Blackpool for Strictly. Or I can ‘start the game again’ and throw away three months of hard work and progress. When I look at it like that, the choice feels clear.

The health changes have really encouraged me too. My oxygen levels have improved from 92 to 93% when I was smoking to consistently 95 to 97% now. I no longer have pains in my legs, and my circulation has improved. I feel healthier and more positive.

I still have moments where I worry I might slip up, but I’m choosing to keep going. This time, I really believe I’ve stopped for good.”
